Recap of All Tech Is Human and New_ Public’s livestream ‘Better Social Media Career Fair’

On Friday, April 29th, All Tech Is Human and New_ Public collaborated to host a rapid-fire showcase of eleven organizations working to improve social media and build better, safer online spaces. All Tech Is Human (@AllTechIsHuman)

Moderator and All Tech Is Human founding director David Polgar and program associate Cate Gwin introduced the livestream and discussed a new opportunity at All Tech Is Human. All Tech Is Human (ATIH) is a non-profit that unites a diverse range of stakeholders to expand the overall Responsible Tech ecosystem and co-create a better tech future. All Tech Is Human has a range of activities that are all connected to building community and the overall Responsible Tech pipeline. This includes our 3000+ strong Slack group, our Programs (University Ambassadors, Mentorship, Job Board, Event Calendar), Working Groups, Publications, and Events. All Tech Is Human is hiring a Program Associate, focused on knowledge management and administration. 

New_ Public (@WeAreNew_Public)

Deepti Doshi introduced New_ Public, a non-profit community-driven laboratory building digital spaces at the intersection of social media, community building, and democracy. “New_ Public aims to inspire and connect designers and technologists to build more, flourishing digital public spaces. New_ Public is shifting from a focus on knowledge and network building to incubating and building products that are aligned with our research on healthy digital public spaces.” New_ Public is hiring a Head of Product, Chief Operations Officer, and Head of Community, as well as internships in Research, Design, Communications, and Operations.

Cyber Collective (@getcyco)

Callie Rojewski introduced Cyber Collective (CyCo), “a community-centered research organization that hosts events to teach and understand the ways data and privacy impact consumers. We educate the public in order to bring marginalized voices to the forefront of the data ethics dialogue. We take input from our events to create reports, briefings and advocate for change. We share our findings to educate, empower, and uplift.” Cyber Collective is currently hiring for two paid, part-time positions: Program Coordinator and Social Media & Creative Manager

Accountable Tech (@accountabletech)

Zach Praiss introduced Accountable Tech. With campaigns focused on Big Tech Accountability and a Ban Surveillance Advertising Coalition, among others, “Accountable Tech believes that tech companies have a responsibility to strengthen the integrity of their platforms and our democracy. Social media giants are eroding our consensus reality and pushing democracy to the brink. Accountable Tech is fighting back…Accountable Tech is working to bring about long-term structural reform to tackle the existential threat social media companies pose to our information ecosystem and democracy.” Accountable Tech is currently looking for summer interns.

Mobius (@mobiusorg)

Aden Van Noppen introduced Mobius, which is a home for people creating Liberatory Technology products, systems, and narratives. “Our mission is to offer our community the relational, intellectual, spiritual, and financial resources to unlock bold, paradigm-shifting projects that foster liberation and thriving for all.” Mobius is currently hiring for Social Media Support (Part-time) and Narrative Partners and have a call out to join an emergent community of “Generative Investors”; future plans include hiring a Full-time Narrative Partner, Community Manager, and Liberatory Technologists early in 2023, as well as the launch of the Liberatory Technology Fellowship, with applications opening in late summer. Annika Hansteen-Izora introduced Somewhere Good, a social platform for playful and intentional conversations with homies you haven’t met yet. “Somewhere Good is a social platform designed for intimate audio conversations. Through expansive digital spaces we open portals for nuanced, layered and engaging connections between those who share identities and interests...The world we live in is designed for a predominantly white, cisgender and heterosexual experience. Center for Humane Technology (@HumaneTech_)

David Jay introduced the Center for Humane Technology. “We reframe the insidious effects of persuasive technology, expose the runaway systems beneath, and deepen the capacity of global decision-makers and everyday leaders to take wise action.” Current Projects include the Undivided Attention podcast and the new Foundations of Humane Technology online course. They will soon be hiring for a role related to their new online course and subsequent community growth.

Reboot (@reboot_hq)

Emily Liu introduced Reboot, “a publication and community reimagining techno-optimism for a better collective future.” Current projects include a newsletter and Discord community in addition to print magazine, Kernel Magazine., with open calls for both non-fiction and creative works in addition to open roles available for an Editor, Designer, and Web Developer. Mina Aslan introduced Headstream, powered by SecondMuse, which is a “national innovation program focused on creating a just and thriving digital economy that supports the wellbeing of young people as they grow up. Headstream exists as a bridge between those with a lot of systemic power and those with less.” SecondMuse is currently hiring for roles on the Business Development team and Capital team, as well as a Program Associate and Senior Associate. Headstream has open opportunities in the Accelerator Program and Youth to Innovator Advisory Program

Joe Tropeano introduced Unfinished. “Unfinished works to strengthen our civic life in the digital age.
