UC Berkeley Tech Policy Fellows
The UC Berkeley Tech Policy Fellows program offers scholars and practitioners the opportunity to spend the 2024-2025 academic year as a non-residential fellow at UC Berkeley to conduct research; share expertise and experiences with faculty, staff, and students; and develop technical or policy interventions that support responsible technology development and use.

AI Research Scientist Internship - Trusted Media Intern, Intel
G3 AI Team is looking for a motivated summer intern with experience at the intersection of machine learning and computer vision domains who can collaborate on research projects being conducted in one or more of G3 AI's focus areas. The successful candidate will be working on developing responsible AI approaches related to the integrity of digital content, including manipulated content detection, synthetic data generation, media provenance, and adversarial attacks on such systems, with one or more of modalities such as vision, audio, speech, or biological signals.
Compensation: Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in US, Colorado, New York, Washington, California: $63,000.00-$166,000.00
Research Assistant, Ethics & Tech (Intern), Eticas
As a Research Intern you will support Eticas’ research and policymaking by conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, assisting in the development of research methodologies, and contributing to the creation of reports and presentations. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in the intersection of ethical tech, algorithmic auditing, and policy, with strong research and analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, helping shape a more ethical technological future.
Compensation: €1,000 per month
Broadband Policy Fellow, Public Knowledge
Public Knowledge Fellowships provide an opportunity for recent graduates to learn valuable analytical and policymaking skills in an on-the-job setting that includes advocacy with Congress and federal agencies. Public Knowledge promotes fundamental human rights in the digital economy by working to create and execute strategies that promote the open internet, balanced intellectual property rights, and communications competition.
The Fellowship length is one year and will be spent working closely with Public Knowledge’s expert staff on broadband deployment, subsidies or other mechanisms to make broadband affordable, regulatory environment to ensure reliability and consumer protection on those networks, and spectrum policies that serve the public interest. This fellowship will include opportunities to train and work on policies involving the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) in the broadband era. The Fellow will contribute to our work on helping low-income and marginalized communities, who are the most likely to lack meaningful broadband, by advocating for policies that increase data speeds, prohibit data and overage fees, and prevent communications shutoffs.
Compensation: $70,000 per year plus benefits.
2025 UCLA Institute for Technology, Law and Policy Fellowship, UCLA
The Policy Fellow will undertake a range of research, writing, teaching, and public policy engagement tasks in support of the Institute for Technology, Law & Policy’s mission and mandate. The fellowship will also involve student engagement and assisting with other Institute projects, such as conferences, workshops, and the development of new research and funding proposals. UCLA is particularly interested in applicants with an interest in the ethics and social impact challenges in the development of new technologies, or privacy and data protection, though UCLA is open to applications from students pursuing research in any area of the law and technology space.
Compensation: The salary is anticipated to be $87,000 per year
AI & National Security/Defense Fellow/Senior Fellow - Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)
The Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies seeks a highly motivated AI & National Security/Defense Fellow (or Senior Fellow) to play a key role in advancing the program’s research agenda that explores the national security and defense implications of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.
Compensation: The minimum annual salary for Fellow is $70,000, and the minimum annual salary for Senior Fellow is $85,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Digital Impact and Governance Initiative Research Internship, New America
DIGI seeks enthusiastic, motivated undergraduate or graduate students (or individuals with comparable experience) for a paid, remote internship. Hybrid opportunities are also available. Candidates should demonstrate interest in issues at the intersection of tech and democracy and be committed to exploring career opportunities in the vast fields of public policy, civic tech and social innovation.
Compensation: Internships are paid $20/hour. Candidates must be able to work 10-15 hours/week and commit to a minimum of three months.
MTA Technology & Engineering Fellows
The MTA Information Technology (IT) department's mission is to deliver innovative and responsive solutions that enable safe, effective, and efficient transportation operations which strategically align with the overarching corporate MTA goals. IT will partner with all MTA business units to understand the overall information needs of the transportation agencies and the communities they serve to optimize the adoption and use of information technology.
Project Responsibilities MTA IT’s Functional Areas are seeking interns to focus on projects in the team portfolio and contribute to MTA’s digital transformation including areas such as Cybersecurity, IT Product Management (including software development), IT Infrastructure, Enterprise Strategy and Architecture, and Business Operations.
Compensation: $21 per hour
Research Intern - Human-oriented Artificial Intelligence, Microsoft
Research Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Research Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
Compensation: The base pay range for this internship is USD $6,290 - $12,170 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $8,060 - $13,240 per month.
