The Alan Turing Institute - Data Justice Consultant [Remote]
The Alan Turing Institute is hiring a remote Data Justice Consultant for a 5-month short-term consultant contract, November 2021 – March 2022, to “provide support to the Alan Turing Institute Advancing Data Justice Research and Practice Team and facilitate the global expansion of this project.”
The qualified candidate will have “Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in the areas of science and technology studies, digital ethics, applied ethics, sociology, anthropology, public policy, or other fields in the humanities and social sciences that place emphasis on responsible research and innovation and/or on the social and ethical impacts of data-intensive or AI technologies,” in addition to 3-5 years experience.
In this role, you will “Assist in coordinating administrative aspects of policy pilot partnerships” and “Set up management protocols and regular communications with policy pilot partners (PPP),” among other duties.
The salary is £30,000 (5 months), and the role is open until October 24th.

Future of Life Institute - Vitalik Buterin PhD Fellowship in AI Existential Safety [Remote]
Future of Life Institute is looking for a Vitalik Buterin PhD Fellow in AI Existential Safety to provide funding “for 5 years of their PhD, with extension funding possible” to “fund talented students throughout their PhDs to work on AI existential safety research.”
“To be eligible, applicants should either be graduate students or be applying to PhD programs that start in 2022. Funding is conditional on being accepted to a PhD program, working on AI existential safety research, and having an advisor who can confirm to us that they will support the student’s work on AI existential safety research.”
“At universities in the US, UK, or Canada, annual funding will cover tuition, fees, and the stipend of the student's PhD program up to $40,000, as well as a fund of $10,000 that can be used for research-related expenses such as travel and computing.”
The role is open until October 29th.

Future of Life Institute - Vitalik Buterin PostDoc Fellowship in AI Existential Safety [Remote]
Future of Life Institute is looking for a Vitalik Buterin PostDoc Fellow in AI Existential Safety to provide funding “for 5 years of their PhD, with extension funding possible” to “fund talented students throughout their PhDs to work on AI existential safety research.”
Eligible applicants will have “[a] mentor (normally a professor) at the host institution (normally a university) who commits in writing to mentor and support the applicant in their AI existential safety research if a Fellowship is awarded. This includes ensuring that the applicant has access to office space and is welcomed and integrated into the local research community.”
The award is “an annual $80,000 stipend and a fund of up to $10,000 that can be used for research-related expenses such as travel and computing.”

Tech Talent Project - Executive Assistant & Office Associate [Remote]
Tech Talent Project is hiring a remote full-time Executive Assistant & Office Associate to “[provide] key administration support and project management to the senior leadership team..”
The ideal candidate will have “2-5 years experience leading operations, managing projects, and supporting a team” as well as “[f]amiliarity with the tech industry and/or government.”
In this role, you will “[c]oordinate the senior leadership team’s calendars, including scheduling meetings as requested, proactively addressing conflicts, and making sure the senior leadership team is prepared for and on time for meetings and events,” among other tasks.
The salary is $60,000 -$85,000 and the role is available until Oct. 31st.

The Public Policy and Political Economy program in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (EPPS) at The University of Texas at Dallas is seeking a full-time permanent tenure-track Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity and Policy.
“The successful candidate will have a PhD in a social science or public policy-related field. The candidate’s research agenda should focus on issues of cybersecurity with an international/cross-national dimension. Research topics of special interest include ethical and legal aspects of cybersecurity, regulation across countries, the economics of information security, the interaction of security and privacy considerations, and the politics of developing and administrating cybersecurity policies and programs.”

The Alan Turing Institute - Social Data Scientist, Women in Data Science and AI [London, UK]
The Alan Turing Institute is hiring a London-based full-time Social Data Scientist, Women in Data Science and AI for a two-year position who will be “responsible for conducting original end-to-end social data science research, from proposal and design to implementation and dissemination, with a focus on policy recommendations.”
“The successful candidate will use quantitative methods to extract insights from data, translate them into actionable recommendations, and communicate findings to diverse audiences. They will be expected to work collaboratively within the Women in Data Science and AI project, complementing existing mixed methods research undertaken by the team. It is also expected that identifying and building relationships with external collaborators, such as new data partners, will form a significant part of the role.”
The ideal candidate will have “Masters degree in social data science, statistics, computational social science, computer science, or related discipline,” as well as “[d]emonstrably strong methodological and theoretical foundations and experience designing and conducting fieldwork and data collection at the intersection of technology and society (e.g. relationships between social inequalities and technology).”
The salary is £37,000 - £42,000 and the role is available until Nov. 7th.
Algorithmic Justice League- Director of Communications [Remote]
Algorithmic Justice League is hiring a remote full-time Director of Communications who “is responsible for developing, executing, and assessing AJL’s organization-wide communications, media outreach, and narrative strategy.”
The qualified candidate will have a “minimum of 10-15 years of communications experience, with at least 5-8 years as a Director leading the development, growth & execution of successful, comprehensive communications and outreach strategies.”
In this role, you will “[o]versee the integration of strategic communications, media, and public relations outreach efforts across the organization.”
The salary for this position is $140,000 - $160,000.

Snap, Inc. is hiring a full-time Product Manager, Trust & Safety Tools, based in any of a number of U.S. cities, “to drive critical Platform Integrity Tools that help our teams keep Snapchat safe for our community. As a PM on the Platform Integrity Product team, you will be at the center of Trust & Safety and Integrity work; prevention, detection, enforcement, measurement.”
The qualified candidate will have a “Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience” as well as “2+ years of product management, data science or program management experience at a technology company.”
In this role, you will “[d]evelop goals, strategy and roadmaps for the Platform Integrity area,” and “[s]et metrics that inform the success and impact of safety efforts,” among other tasks.
YouTube - Policy Enforcement Lead, Misinformation, Trust and Safety [Dublin]
YouTube is hiring a full-time Dublin-based Policy Enforcement Lead, Misinformation, Trust and Safety to “lead a team responsible for effectively enforcing our misinformation content policies, from the point of identification of possible violation to removal and appeals.”
The qualified candidate will have a “Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience,” and “[e]xperience in content policy, anti-abuse or customer support operations, reviewing content and/or answering user questions, and working with vendors.”

Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center has put a call out for applications for a one-year in-residence Technology and Public Purpose Fellowship to “explore multidisciplinary approaches to maximizing the societal benefits of emerging technologies while minimizing the harms.”
The qualified candidate will have “significant professional experience and subject matter knowledge in their respective domain—whether that be science, technology, policy, investing, or advocacy.”
In this role, you will be “responsible for conducting research in a tech and public purpose field, such as improving digital media, managing the geopolitics of technology, designing ethical AI and biotech, improving the alignment of new forms of work with human fulfillment, and in general shaping technological progress to enhance public purposes.”
Mozilla Foundation - Senior Computer Science Fellow [Cambridge, MA]
Mozilla Foundation is recruiting a couple of full-time remote Senior Computer Science Fellows for a 12-month commitment “to contribute to Mozilla’s strategic efforts within the area of educating students about responsible computing.”
The qualified candidate will be an “issue-area specialists with experience working in or in collaboration with a combination of the following: pedagogy, ethics, humanistic studies, technology industry, academia, and government.”
In this role, you will be asked “to develop and contribute to work products like the Teaching Responsible Computing Playbook, supporting the online repository of content, and contributing to various writing products like op-eds and White Papers.”
