March 2, 2022: NYC In-Person Mixer!
On March 2, 2022, All Tech Is Human hosted an in-person mixer in Manhattan that brought together a mix of org leaders, academics, public interest technologists, students, Trust & Safety, and more!
We enjoyed connecting with members of our community over falafel, drinks, and friendly conversations. There were 100+ attendees that represented a diverse group of professionals looking to build the responsible tech pipeline - including members of our University Ambassadors and Mentorship program. This is the beginning of an ongoing conversation around our new initiative, Responsible Tech NYC, that seeks to unite the diverse range of stakeholders in the region that are committed to co-creating a better tech future.
The current collaborating organizations for Responsible Tech NYC include Consumer Reports, the Consulate General of Canada in New York, New_Public, TheBridge, Cyber Collective, Digital Void, Tech 2025, Better Mousetrap, Tech Policy Press, Soliya, and more being announced shortly!
To initiate New York City’s role in the responsible tech conversation we asked attendees, “How can we make NYC the Responsible Tech hub?” Some of the thoughts captured were:
“Encourage conversations; educate PMs on ethics; Highlight companies that reflect ethical/unethical practices.”
“Awareness and education!”
“Partnerships with local New York entities!”
“Establish/share strategies that move our companies and organizations in the right direction.”
Some of the organizations represented at our mixer were:
Center for Humane Technology
Consulate General of Canada
Consumer Reports
Cyber Collective
Omidyar Network
IEEE
Integrity Institute
Soliya
Tech:NYC
Tech Policy Press
Unfinished
And more!
Some universities represented were:
Columbia University
Cornell Tech
Fordham University
Rutgers University

Princeton University
And more!
We were thrilled to have an amazing turnout and look forward to the next! See all of our projects, including our new Office Hours, our next working group on AI & Human Rights, waitlist for the mentorship program, upcoming events, previous previous reports, community Slack group, and more.
All Tech Is Human is currently in discussions for a range of events in NYC in the Spring (along with elsewhere), so do reach out if you have any ideas for collaboration!
