#ShareTheMicInCyber Fellowship, New America

The #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellowship is a program providing mid-career cybersecurity professionals from diverse backgrounds with an opportunity to conduct policy research and analysis, access professional development, examine critical cyber security issues, and explore questions of diversity and the human side of cybersecurity.

During the course of their year-long fellowship with New America, #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellows will conduct an independent research project. Their first nine months will be dedicated to professional development and planning, researching, and finalizing their work product. The final three months are dedicated to promoting their research work with the help of New America and program staff. During our inaugural year, our Fellows conducted independent projects on a variety of consequential cybersecurity topics, spanning from mapping the global impact of spyware on activists, to the cybersecurity risks of AR/VR technologies.

Senior Data Scientist, Consumer Reports

CR is currently seeking a Senior Data Scientist for our Innovation Lab team to help design and prototype solutions to many urgent problems consumers face today. 

You will serve as the embedded senior data scientist on a fast-moving team, responsible for delivering proofs of concept and demonstrating new, innovative ways CR can show up for consumers. In this role, you will regularly ship work that has a real impact on the marketplace and people’s lives.

Project Manager - Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies, Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue

In 2024 HD will be facilitating a series of structured dialogues with interested states on codifying risk mitigation measures in one or more agreements. This work is housed in HD’s Digital Conflict directorate. There will also be the opportunity to scope and develop work on other emerging issues in the nexus between technology and conflict (e.g. in the outer space domain). You will Lead the development of HD’s artificial intelligence and emerging technologies project and oversee its overall performance.

Digital Justice Fellow, Legal Defense Fund

The Digital Justice Fellow will work with LDF litigators, policy advocates, and organizers and assist in the development of litigation, legislation, and advocacy tools to critically examine and address the role of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data in the creation, maintenance, and furthering of racial inequality.

While TMI and LDF are interested in the impact of emerging technologies in Black communities across our core issue areas, our digital rights work has primarily addressed three priorities: 1) police surveillance technologies; 2) algorithmic discrimination as a barrier to economic justice; and 3) the impact of AI on Black political power. The Digital Justice Fellow will advance TMI and LDF’s racial justice and emerging technologies agenda by producing reports, briefs, and other written materials and working collaboratively within LDF to educate the public and to support our visionary advocacy work. Experience with racial bias analysis and with technology required.

William J. Brennan Fellowship, Speech, Privacy & Technology Project, ACLU

The Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project is dedicated to protecting and expanding the First Amendment freedoms of expression, association, and inquiry; expanding the right to privacy and increasing the control that individuals have over their personal information; and ensuring that civil liberties are enhanced rather than compromised by new advances in science and technology. The project is currently litigating cases and conducting other advocacy efforts on a variety of issues, including political protest, freedom of expression online, privacy of electronic information, journalists’ rights, scientific and academic freedom, openness in the courts, privacy rights at the border, and the impact of big data and algorithmic decision-making. 

The Brennan Fellowship, established by a special gift from author Tom Peters and poet Catherine Abbe and named after retired Supreme Court Justice William Brennan, was created to give people just starting their careers an opportunity to receive training and experience in First Amendment advocacy, and to help the ACLU advance its First Amendment goals. The Brennan Fellow will function as an integral part of the Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project, and will work on our extensive docket of First and Fourth Amendment cases. This is a two-year fellowship position, and starts in Fall 2024.

aiEDU is launching a project to develop substitute lesson plans to supplement our existing and future curriculum materials. Our aim is to design accessible and differentiated learning content that effectively addresses the diverse needs of students and educators. This role will be responsible for creating substitute lesson plans for aiEDU based on existing and upcoming Project Dashboard learning activities (grades 9-12).
