August 2023 Responsible Tech Mixer Recap: San Francisco - Reducing Online Harms 🎉

(August 09, New York, NY) All Tech Is Human is delighted to release its panel discussion featuring Kavya Pearlman, Tami Bhamik, Matt Dougherty and moderator Sandra Khalil from All Tech Is Human’s Responsible Tech Mixer: San Francisco at Manny’s in San Francisco on August 2, 2023.

All Tech Is Human, a 501c3 organization dedicated to building the Responsible Tech Movement, is thrilled to announce more than 200 people came out for our Responsible Tech Mixer: Reducing Online Harms at Manny’s in San Francisco on August 2, 2023. This gathering was produced with the support of our partners at Crisp, a Kroll Business.

The Responsible Tech Mixer: Reducing Online Harms brought together a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines across academia, civil society, government, and industry, for a panel discussion and mixer featuring Kavya Pearlman (Founder & CEO of the X Reality Safety Intelligence (XRSI)), Tami Bhaumik (VP of Digital Civility at Roblox), and Matt Dougherty (Senior Product Evangelist at Crisp, a Kroll business).

To create healthier online spaces, Roblox’s Vice President of Civility and Partnerships at Roblox Tami Bhaumik explained the importance of data-backed policy and education.

“We need to have evidence-based, balanced policy and regulation that is put forth. So that we can make sure that not only do we have a safe place, but everybody's playing by the same rules…it's about education and awareness. Because if young people don't have the tools and the knowledge, and the parents don't have the tools and the knowledge, then it all kind of falls apart.” she said.

Online safety requires a proactive approach to policymaking. People can use platforms in unanticipated ways – which creates incentives for companies to try to get ahead of harmful material.

“You don't know what else is out there. You don't know how people are misusing your product in ways that you haven't thought of yet. And so some of the things that I've, I've found successful is setting up in-house threat detection teams.” Senior Product Evangelist Matt Dougherty said.

All Tech Is Human launched its 2023 Responsible Tech Speaker Series in March 2023 to bring together a wide range of stakeholders working to co-create a better tech future as part of its 2023 Responsible Tech Mixer Speaker Series. Almost 2,000 unique people have signed up to attend monthly events in New York, which feature authors, technologists, youth advocates, trust and safety professionals, data advocates, and people working at the forefront of a responsible tech future. Our supporters include Atlantic Council, Crisp, a Kroll Business, Tekalo, Mozilla, and Project Liberty.
