U.S. Executive Office of the President - Data Scientist [Washington, D.C.]

“This position is located in the Executive Office of the President (EOP), Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), Office of Translational Research (OTR). ONDCP's mission is to develop, implement and sustain the President's agenda regarding trafficking and use of illicit drugs and misuse of prescription drugs through its National Drug Control Strategy (NDCS).”

Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Responsible for providing professional consultation in the application of statistical and data science theories, techniques, and methods in conducting studies and analyses assessing drug use availability, the consequences of drug use, and the effectiveness of drug programs.

  2. Collects, compiles, and analyzes demographic and other data, and develops measures to track the overall performance of the NDCS.

  3. Identifies gaps in ONDCP research and data collection, or to identify areas requiring additional focus.

  4. Develops and conducts data science projects, often with other government partners, for determining data needed to fill gaps in the overall government program for statistics in the area of drug use or to further examine the effect of changing socio-demographic circumstances related to drug use.

  5. Plans, researches, and implements the full scope of investigative projects aimed at analyzing substance use and drug trafficking trends in order to facilitate greater understanding of the problems and issues involved.

Requirements include a degree in “Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position,” or equivalent experience.

“Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.”

The salary range is $106,823 - $138,868 per year (GS 13), and the deadline to apply is January 28th.

FASPE - Design and Technology Fellowship

“FASPE is an intensive, two-week study program in professional ethics and ethical leadership.”

“This year, FASPE Design and Technology will be awarding fellowships to 15 to 17 graduate students and early-career professionals working in engineering, architecture, computer science, design, and related fields. Fellows will spend two weeks in Germany and Poland, where they will visit key sites of Nazi history and participate in daily seminars led by specialized faculty. The program couples the power of place with academic rigor and many informal opportunities for creative exchange. Along with FASPE's historians and ethicists, Dr. Mona Sloane and Dr. David Danks will serve as faculty members for the 2022 program, bringing together their expertise on technology, ethics, policy, and design.” 

“FASPE Design and Technology applicants must be actively pursuing a career in architecture, design, computer science, data science, engineering, or any related professions. Applicants must fit into one of the following two categories: 1) be enrolled in a graduate program in design, architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, computer science, statistics and applied math, electrical engineering, or a program in a closely related field at the time of their application, or 2) be working in a related field, with an undergraduate degree earned no earlier than May 2017 or a graduate degree no earlier than May 2019.”

Internet Archive - Legal Intern [Remote]

“The Internet Archive is seeking a Legal Intern to gain hands-on experience working alongside the Legal & Policy team on issues related to the Internet Archive’s ambitious mission to provide universal access to all knowledge.”

“You will participate in all aspects of the in-house legal & policy team, including litigation, policy, intermediary liability, privacy, and compliance. Your workload will vary and may include: legal research, regulatory and policy analysis, various writings for different audiences, and in-house counseling. During the summer you will be full time. During the semester we require at least 20 hours per week. Internships are unpaid but a small stipend may be arranged depending on circumstances.”

“Who should apply: Currently enrolled law school students or recent graduates with an interest in copyright law, library law, content moderation, intermediary liability, open source, open culture, the internet and the people who use it.”

IKEA - Digital Ethicist in Data & Technology [Pratteln, Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland]

“You probably haven’t been a Digital Ethicist yet – we know it’s pretty new – but you will have a good understanding of social sciences, philosophy and technology, working in a related field for the last few years. We believe that you have strong stakeholder management skills and you are able to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical co-workers.”

Partnership on AI - AI and Media Integrity Program Lead - General (x2) [San Francisco / Remote]

“The Partnership on AI (PAI) is seeking two full-time Program Leads to join the high-growth, high-impact AI and Media Integrity (AIMI) Program.”

“PAI’s AI and Media Integrity Program Area works to create best practices for the development and deployment of AI technologies that impact digital media and online information. To do so, PAI coordinates those on the frontlines of information integrity challenges around the world, with those building and deploying technology…Online information and AI interact in many ways, and we address challenges across the knowledge pipeline: from content creation to dissemination and to the eventual interpretation by users around the world. Our work includes several project areas: 1) Synthetic and Manipulated Content, 2) Local News, and ) Content Targeting and Ranking.”

“The Program Leads will work closely with the Head of AIMI on designing and disseminating the outputs of multistakeholder programs, soliciting Partner and expert input, coordinating pilots, translating insights into policy and practical recommendations, and additional activities as the programs evolve to include implementation phases.”

“The Program Leads will be joining ongoing initiatives that encompass research, design, testing, iteration, and implementation phases. They will shape and scope the AI and Media Integrity Steering Committee--a formal body of PAI Partners including multidisciplinary experts from Adobe, Amazon, BBC, CBC, Facebook, First Draft, Microsoft, The New York Times, WITNESS, and XPRIZE working to develop and advise projects that strengthen online public discourse. They will also work to cultivate and develop PAI’s work in AI and Local News, working to landscape the major ethical challenges journalists and platforms face using AI for local news production and distribution.”

The salary range is $117,000 - $135,000 and the deadline to apply is February 14th.

Accountable Tech - Digital Manager [Remote]

Responsibilities include the following:

  • “Work with the rest of the Accountable Tech team and partners to create successful digital campaigns and initiatives that drive forward our organization’s messaging and objectives

  • Create and maintain an editorial calendar for Accountable Tech that supports both audience growth and campaign goals, while maintaining the flexibility to respond to breaking news

  • Manage, execute, and grow Accountable Tech’s grassroots email program to further expand our grassroots mobilization and fundraising efforts

The salary range for this role is $70,000-$90,000.

Salesforce - Head of Strategic Response, Office of Ethical & Humane Use [San Francisco / Washington, D.C.]

Salesforce “OEHU is seeking a Director to play a pivotal role as the head of Strategic Response for our Policy Team. In this role, you will work across functions, including with members of our Leadership team, on our highest priority ethical use issues across the company. The role will be responsible for organizing company-wide preparations for critical global events around the ethical use of our products, while simultaneously scoping and leading longer-term programs to build our ethical use policy program.”

Responsibilities include the following:

  • “Manage and drive company programs related to global events when they may intersect with Salesforce product use, such as conflicts posing human rights concerns, ethnic or political violence or unrest, or global elections.

  • Rely on data-driven assessments and political analysis to anticipate likely scenarios that could result in real-world violence and involve the use of any Salesforce products. 

  • Develop and coordinate customized, company-wide strategies to ensure the ethical use of our products around major events in multiple countries simultaneously. Coordinate with legal and PR partners for handling sensitive situations.”

The role requires “7+ years of relevant experience in Tech Ethics, Policy, Integrity, Trust & Safety or similar roles.”

Microsoft - Responsible AI Program Manager, Governance & Enablement [Redmond, WA]

  • 3+ year’s experience working on issues pertaining to artificial intelligence or machine learning, including, but not limited to, AI/ML engineering, design, ethics, safety, accessibility, and/or privacy.”

Arthur - Product Manager [New York]

Responsibilities include the following:

  • “Partner with Engineering, ML Research and Customer Success to capture feedback and feature request to develop a product vision, strategy, and feature roadmap.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to enable drive customer usage across technical, operational and executive users of the monitoring platform.

  • Develop communication plan to ensure users understand new product features as they are deployed, including demos, trainings, and shareable communications.

Microsoft - Design Researcher 2, Ethics and Society User Research [Redmond, WA]

· 2+ years of experience in applied quantitative and qualitative product research.

· Masters or PhD in sociology, experimental psychology, human computer interaction, anthropology, political science or related fields.

· Expertise in advanced statistics and the design of experiments.

· Experience with a wide variety of research methodologies including, but not limited to: literature reviews, surveys, in-depth interviews, heuristic evaluations, concept validation, focus groups, competitive reviews, participatory designs, and surveys.

Just Futures Law - Senior Staff Attorney [Remote / Washington, D.C.]

● Demonstrated ability to represent individuals in complex cases and to develop and implement sophisticated legal strategies.

● Ability to file and litigate cases independently and collaboratively; excellent problem-solving skills; ability to juggle multiple on-going projects and exercise good judgment under stressful situations.

The salary range for this position is s $80,000 - $90,000.

Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) - Policy Program Coordinator [Stanford, CA]

“The Policy Program Coordinator will administer and implement complex day-to-day administrative and operations-related functions for the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) Policy portfolio.”

“[T]he Coordinator provides complex administrative and operational leadership to ensure the success of HAI policy programs. The Coordinator serves as the primary and highly-visible public interface for multiple external audiences, with particular emphasis on high-level government officials and executive audiences.
