“Hi everyone! I am Damiano DeMonte, a Senior Media Manager at Mozilla, the non-profit behind the Firefox web browser known for putting people’s privacy first. We are hosting our second annual Rise25 Awards, which honors 25 people from around the world who are shaping the future of the internet.

Last year, we celebrated the people spearheading the development of ethical, equitable, and responsible technologies, but this year, we are focused on individuals driving ethical advancements in AI.I would love for you to nominate someone you believe is leading the next wave of ethical AI, using philanthropy, collective power, or the principles of open source to make sure the future of AI is responsible, trustworthy, inclusive, and centered around human dignity. (If you need a quick refresher on developing trustworthy AI, check out our whitepaper here.)

You can submit nominations for five categories, including Advocates, Builders, Artists, Entrepreneurs, and Change Agents. Five winners will be selected from each to form this year’s Rise25 cohort. The award ceremony will also take place in a beautiful city with a vibrant tech sector and rich culture: Dublin, Ireland!

You can read more about the awards and submit your nominations at this link. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 29 at 5 pm PT. I’m excited to see who you think should be honored at this year’s awards!” - Damiano DeMonte

“Hello everyone! My name is Luise, and I’m the co-organiser of the 2024 Oxford Media Policy Summer Institute at Oxford University. In the tradition of the Oxford Media Policy Summer Institute, now in its third decade, this year’s edition — Technology, Policy and Democracy in Flux: From Inequalities to Inclusion — brings together regulators, policymakers, graduate students, academics, NGOs and others to engage with issues at the heart of technology law and policy: democracy, justice, and security in the digital age. 2024 is a year of unprecedented electoral contests.

Around 4 billion people are expected to vote across 50 countries. As generative AI becomes more sophisticated, there are growing concerns about the accelerating spread of mis/disinformation around elections and the increasing use of internet shutdowns and surveillance as a response to both domestic and international threats. In this year’s Summer Institute, we will focus on several core themes, including AI for development and human rights, its growing application in anticipating crises, the role of technology in conflict, and the regulation of new technologies, including AI and social media. Join us to discuss contemporary issues of global media policy over breakfast, during
seminars, and on long walks through
the Oxford countryside!

“Hi! This is Andrea - the Director of the Reclaim Coalition. We are a survivor-centered effort to address image based sexual violence! I am really excited to share a virtual summit on March 19/20 on deepfake harm. We are co-hosting the Summit and film access with the amazing team who produced the SXSW award-winning doc, Another Body x Bumble x Joyful Heart Foundation.

Our panels and lightning talks bring critical perspectives from survivor leaders, policy and tech leaders, White House leads and global government regulators joining in as we unpack how deepfakes are impacting women + girls and what we can do in policy, tech, and healing spaces. If we listen to survivors today, we’ll have better solutions tomorrow!I believe the more we all come together, the more we can address this! Join us! Here is the link. Sign up. Share and let’s show survivors we are going to stand with them to stop deepfake harms!!! Here is a link: https://anotherbodyfilm.com/the-summit/” -Andrea Powell

“Hi Everyone! This is Maggie, the Director of Community at TSPA, coming to you about our second annual EMEA Summit taking place on May 17th in Dublin, Ireland. The EMEA Summit Request for Proposals (CFP) is open until March 8, and we would love your proporsals!

This year’s summit theme is, “The Power of Collaboration,” which is why I’m specifically reaching out to this community for submissions. For this theme, we will be prioritizing proposals that take into consideration how the Trust & Safety community can come together in order to tackle the ever-evolving threats we face online. We are accepting all types of proposals geared toward an EMEA audience, but are especially looking for topics critical in MEA, platforms outside of social media, and topics that consider the future of T&S.Many people have asked whether it’s appropriate to submit proposals to both TrustCon and the EMEA Summit, or to submit to the EMEA Summit instead of TrustCon. The answer is yes!

More Information about proposals  https://bit.ly/emea24; If you have questions about the EMEA Summit, please contact us at summits@tspa.org” -Maggie
