Atlantic Council, Research Fellow, Digital Forensics Research Lab (Remote - Washington, D.C.)

“The DFRLab continues to monitor domestic violent extremist movements in the United States and is seeking to bring on a full-time Resident Fellow, United States with established expertise in the American information environment and domestic extremism. This role plays an essential role in the DFRLab’s work, focusing on the online activities of white nationalist groups and other extremist movements, with an emphasis on tracking how online content manifests into on-the-ground activities. The fellow will use open-source and digital forensic techniques to identify and analyze these efforts.

The fellow will monitor the domestic US information environment to produce reports focusing on extremist groups and individuals actively engaged in them. They will work with the DFRLab’s research and editorial teams, along with external partners that monitor extremist groups, with the goal of gathering and preserving material to inform potential interventions and various stakeholder communities, including policymakers, media, civil society, and industry. This will involve submitting regular monitoring reports multiple times each week to project partners as well as responding to research requests from partners. The fellow will also have opportunities to build more comprehensive analyses and be an important representative and liaison for the DFRLab.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in evolving and implementing the strategy for this area of work, carry out all relevant stages of grant-making, and conduct advocacy on behalf of OSF as appropriate. At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in a leading role either in the technology industry, or an NGO, government agency or research institution focused on the interplay between technology, rights and justice.

Mastery of the key issues in the area of technology, rights, justice, and innovation - including familiarity with current controversies and thinking in the fields of disinformation, hate speech and platform regulation. Experience in corporate advocacy is a plus.

Demonstrated success in advancing social change strategies, including the ability to adopt those strategies in response to an evolving situation.

National Democratic Institute (NDI), Program Director, Democracy and Technology (Washington, D.C.)

“The National Democratic Institute (NDI) seeks a Program Director to join its Democracy and Technology team in Washington, D.C. This full-time role is responsible for managing team members, contributing to strategic planning, overseeing aspects of program implementation, and ensuring quality control of programs and written products on behalf of the Democracy and Technology team. National Democratic Institute (NDI), Temporary Project Assistant: Democracy and Technology (Washington, D.C.)

“The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is seeking candidates for a temporary (no benefits) position of up to 6 months (initially 3 months, with the possibility of a 3 month extension based on performance), with NDI’s Democracy and Technology (DemTech) team. NDI’s DemTech team works around the globe with political experts in NDI’s 55+ field offices to design and support technology-enabled programs. Protect Democracy, Technology Policy Advocate (Washington, D.C.)

“​Protect Democracy seeks an experienced Technology Policy Advocate who is passionate about developing technology policies that combat disinformation and organizing strategic coalitions around those policies. 

Policy Advocates lead Protect Democracy’s efforts to influence congressional offices, state-level policymakers, executive branch officials, and similar decision-makers through policy creation, direct outreach, and coalition building. The Technology Policy Advocate role is a new position for candidates with deep technology sector and policy expertise to lead our disinformation-related legislative and regulatory work. The Technology Policy Advocate will spearhead our efforts to identify and create or refine actionable solutions that simultaneously address the spread of anti-democratic disinformation while protecting the freedom of speech that supports our system of self-government.
