Our aim at All Tech Is Human is to tackle the world’s thorniest tech & society issues and co-create a better tech future. To do this, we are building the world’s largest global, multistakeholder network in Responsible Tech. This allows us to leverage the collective intelligence of thousands of individuals and organizations that are deeply committed to reducing harms and ensuring that we can align our technology with the public interest. This collective intelligence and participation surfaces values, tensions, trade-offs, and best practices. Your voice and participation is an essential part of the process.

What topics are you involved in or interested in?

  • Responsible AI is at the forefront of ethical technology development. It emphasizes the need for transparency, fairness, and accountability in AI systems. Our community of ethical practitioners works to ensure applications of AI benefit society without causing harm or reinforcing bias. In the responsible technology space, it’s important to craft guidelines, implement robust testing, and advocate for policies that prioritize ethical considerations while respecting human rights and equity.

  • Trust & Safety teams play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of online platforms and digital spaces. Practitioners are not only dedicated to combating harmful content, disinformation, and cyber threats, they also work to foster an environment of trust among users. The Trust & Safety field is evolving and emerging with difficult tradeoffs and challenges in promoting a secure and trustworthy digital ecosystem.

  • Technology Policy covers a wide range of issues that deal with regulating or moderating the development and deployment of emerging technologies - ideally to ensure that they are in line with the public interest. Tech policies can be created by governments, industry, NGOs and civil society. Topics addressed by tech policy involve concentrations of power, the geopolitics of technology, mis/disinformation, governance of artificial intelligence, data discrimination, data privacy, etc.

  • The intersection of cyber and democracy involves the collective endeavor of safeguarding our digital public squares and the legitimacy of democratic institutions. In the complex interplay between technology and democratic processes, practitioners in this intersection advocate for transparency and election integrity, safeguard against foreign interference, and ensure our digital spaces remain open for discourse and civic engagement. This work is pivotal to preserving principles that underpin our society.

  • Public Interest Tech involves the championing of technology serving the greater good. Practitioners in this space work to address societal challenges through innovative, sustainable solutions, with expertise spanning issue areas like civic tech, data, and digital accessibility. This work involves cross-sector collaboration with governments, civil society, and communities to create digital tools and policies that prioritize wellbeing and equitable access for all.

  • The intersection of youth, tech, and wellbeing features a range of stakeholders steeped in the unique and emerging challenges between young people and technology. There is an emphasis on digital literacy, online safety, and the responsible use of technology, particularly in the realm of social media. Youth advocacy in the space promotes meaningful tech legislation, digital literacy, and wellbeing tools, ensuring mental and emotional health while navigating the digital landscape.

Do you consider yourself at technologist?

  • Great! Lots of technologists make there way to All Tech Is Human in order to find community, understand their role and responsibilities with the designing, development, and deployment of technologies.

    You’ll find numerous technologists at our in-person gatherings, inside our working groups, virtually in our weekly livestream series, in our mentorship program, and more.

    We also have a Responsible Tech Job Board, talent pool, and are part of Tekalo (social impact roles in tech).

  • The Responsible Tech movement is made up of all different disciplines! Law, psychology, sociology, and everything in between. Our organization is committed to diversifying the types of individuals involved in considering the social impact of technology—and this relies on having wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives involved!

    Our organization has involved thousands of individuals and interviewed hundreds about their careers. If you are new to the movement, you may be surprised to learn that a significant portion of people working in Responsible Tech do not have a traditional tech background.

What level of experience do you have?

  • Glad you are starting your journey in Responsible Tech! The ecosystem is filled with a wide variety of backgrounds. In fact, it is this mix of backgrounds that is needed in order to ensure we can build a better tech future!

    All Tech Is Human has numerous way to help you start your journey into the Responsible Tech movement. We recommend you read our Responsible Tech Guide, check out the focus area(s) that best suit you on our website, join our Slack community to learn about the incredible work being done, and apply to our mentorship program!

  • We have a lot of people in our community who are trying to grow in their career, while also have a lot of valuable knowledge to pass along to others!

    Individuals have often joined our mentorship program as a mentor to get paired up with a senior level individual, and then a mentor to assist those just getting started.

    You may also be interested in our working groups; you can find one based on your topic area of interest or join our general education working group.

    At the mid-career level, you will also get a lot of value out of attending our in-person gatherings (NYC, SF, DC, London, and more soon), weekly livestream series, and checking out our Responsible Tech Job Board. And if you are actively looking to find a new role, join our Responsible Tech Talent Pool!

  • We would love for you to pay your knowledge forward! All Tech Is Human has featured hundreds of individuals like yourself on our stages, in our livestreams, and interviewed for our many reports (such as our Responsible Tech Guide).

    Our organization also has numerous high-level curated gatherings that mix together experienced individuals across civil society, government, industry, and academia.

Depending on where you are located, it can often feel like you are the only one who deeply cares about the impact of technology and fighting for ways to ensure we have a better future. Well, there is good news: there are thousands of people across the globe just like you!
