2024 Bellingcat Technical Writing Fellow

Bellingcat is excited to announce its technical writing fellowship is returning in 2024. Bellingcat is looking for fellows who have an idea for improving usability of open source methods and tools through documentation or writing.

This opportunity is not just targeted at technical writers, but writers of all stripes, illustrators, user researchers, videographers, or anyone who has an idea for making open source tools easier to learn and more accessible. It is open to anyone interested in open source investigation regardless of experience or technical skill. For many documentation projects, writing from the perspective of a “non-expert” can even be a benefit for usability.


Director of Data Science, Innovations for Poverty Action

For more than 20 years, Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) has been fighting global poverty using the power of ingenuity and data. Most often, this has meant opening an office in Peru, Kenya, or the Philippines, or in any of almost two dozen low-income countries and hiring teams of people to fan out and conduct surveys, run randomized experiments, and test innovative programs and policy ideas. The best minds in economics, public health, and other fields have put their ideas to the test, partnering with IPA to implement research and share the evidence strategically with funders and policymakers.

Accenture is seeking experts who have a deep understanding of policy, standards and regulation of AI, and who can translate this into helping our clients establish their principles, policies, operating model, governance structures and controls for Responsible AI. The ideal candidate will enjoy the breadth and pace of working with clients from different sectors and will also have the capability to step back and help Accenture shape and influence the development of AI standards and policies.

Technical Investigator, Intel & Investigations, OpenAI

As a technical investigator on the Intelligence and Investigations team, you will be responsible for prototyping strategies to find misuse of our products, writing and scaling detection to find abuse cases, and investigating abuse trends on OpenAI’s products. You will also respond to critical incidents, especially those that are not caught by our existing safety systems. 

This role is based in our San Francisco office and includes participation in an on-call rotation that may involve resolving urgent incidents outside of normal work hours. Some investigations may involve sensitive content, including sexual, violent, or otherwise-disturbing material.

Senior Product Designer, Ameelio

Ameelio is looking for a full-time hire to join its small and nimble product team to help them in building the nation’s first free prison communications platform. You will lead the end-to-end design of new features and improvements across our product suite, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience. You will also:

  • Collaborate with the team to identify user needs and translate them into elegant design solutions.

  • Conduct user research to help the team build empathy, identify opportunities, and validate design decisions.

  • Work with product and account managers to influence the overall product strategy and roadmap to ensure that Ameelio’s deployed solutions achieve the desired impact.


Senior AI Impact Researcher, Holistic AI

This is a new role for Senior AI Impact Researcher to join Holistic AI’s Policy, Legal and Governance team. The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate having both strong written and verbal communication skills during the interview process.  To succeed in the role you'll need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be ready to take on our AI impact research efforts and spearhead our academic partnerships and activities which includes giving presentations in front of an audience. You'll be able to work well both independently and as part of the wider team.
