Research Scholar (Technical Research), Centre for the Governance of AI

Research Scholar is a one-year visiting position. It is designed to support the career development of AI governance researchers and practitioners — as well as to offer them an opportunity to do high-impact work.

As a Research Scholar, you will have freedom to pursue a wide range of styles of work. This could include conducting policy research, social science research, or technical research; engaging with and advising policymakers; or launching and managing applied projects.


Product Manager (Data Products), City of Boston

Millions of people interact with the City of Boston digitally each year to do everything from finding information on City services to paying a parking ticket. We believe these experiences should be easy to navigate and accessible. DoIT is focused on partnering with City departments to improve service delivery across the City. We’re a cross-functional team with a mission to improve the user experience of existing digital services, better engage and communicate with our residents, and build new systems to improve how the City delivers services online. The Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) provides and maintains mission-critical technologies for the City’s more than 18,000 employees and the hundreds of thousands of constituents they serve.

As a Product Manager, you’ll lead cross-functional teams to deliver user-centered products using agile methodologies and modern software development practices while building capacity for product innovation in government. You’ll be a champion for user needs, with a goal of improving end-to-end user experiences through improvements in technology, business processes, and streamlined systems. You’ll work closely with City departments, and must have strong communication and relationship management skills.


Equity in Civic Technology Fellow, Center for Democracy & Technology

The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) is seeking a Fellow with policy, research, and/or legal expertise relevant to engage on federal and state agencies’ use of AI to deliver government services. The Fellow will contribute to the work of CDT’s Equity in Civic Technology team, which focuses on ensuring government uses of data and technology that affirm individual privacy, respect civil rights, foster inclusive participatory systems, promote transparent and accountable oversight, and advance just social structures within the broader community.

As part of CDT’s Equity in Civic Technology team, the Fellow will have the opportunity to shape cutting-edge efforts to incorporate responsible AI into the delivery of public benefits and other government services, while mitigating risks of bias and inequities. The Civic Tech team does this by providing balanced advocacy that promotes the responsible use of data and technology while protecting people’s privacy and civil rights. We engage with these issues from both technical and policy-minded perspectives, creating solutions-oriented policy resources and actionable technical guidance.


Social Media Fellow, New_ Public

New_ Public is seeking a Social Media Fellow to join our team from March 2024-July 2024! The goals of this fellowship are to help further develop your skills in a professional work environment through hands-on, industry-related experience and mentorship opportunities, and to make an impact on our work and culture by bringing your valuable skills and perspectives.

As a New_ Public Fellow, you will work closely with their Communications team to help drive field-building and external messaging efforts. You will educate and communicate about New_ Public programs and focuses, including our work with public media institutions and local digital communities. You will steer our social media presence on Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon and develop our short form video efforts in close collaboration with other team members. You will be responsible for communicating directly with our audiences, researching successful approaches to each platform, and producing engaging campaigns outside of daily posting.


Fellow / Associate Fellow, Technology and National Security Program, Center for a New American Security (CNAS)

The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) seeks to hire a Fellow / Associate Fellow for its Technology and National Security Program. Ideal candidates will have experience in research and/or policy development at the intersection of technology and national security and an interest in U.S. technology competitiveness and policy. Policy-relevant knowledge and expertise in quantum information science and technology is preferred, as is knowledge in semiconductors/microelectronics, artificial intelligence, information and communications technology, cybersecurity, or digital infrastructure.

The Fellow / Associate Fellow will have the opportunity to lead and/or contribute to research projects on high-impact national security issues, organize events, and engage with senior U.S. and foreign national security leaders. An ability to drive research, including executing the associated administrative tasks, and strong attention to detail is critical. The Fellow / Associate Fellow will be expected to perform a variety of tasks outlined below. Other tasks may be required, and responsibilities will vary over time.


Software Engineer, TransitionZero

The Software Engineer works within TransitionZero’s Platform Team to support the development and maintenance of TZ’s API and flagship model-builder and data-explorer products. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other developers within the Platform Team, as well as with product owners, energy systems modellers, and analysts across the business. Alongside the rest of the Platform Team, they will be responsible for designing, delivering, and maintaining the foundational software and libraries for TZ’s energy systems modelling products. This job is perfect for developers with an interest in sustainability and tech-for-good, and a desire to work in a green-tech start-up environment.


Senior Manager of Partner Programs, The Knowledge House

The Knowledge House is seeking a Senior Manager of Partner Programs to lead and manage the launch of pilot partnership-driven digital equity and workforce development programs. Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategy & Innovation, this role will be instrumental in leading the implementation of partnership-driven programs and pilots.

Throughout 2024 and 2025, the primary program this role will lead the launch and implementation for is a workforce program based in Stamford, CT. The Senior Manager of Partner Programs will manage a learning community of approximately 25 learners throughout the end-to-end fellowship experience, from admissions through job placement. Successful outcomes for this role include partnering with community and corporate partners to enroll a cohort of 20-30 adult learners. Furthermore, this role will be responsible for upholding 80% learner retention through the learning phases of the fellowship. In the final phase of the program, they will manage all learner-facing efforts needed to support hiring of 80% alumni by coaching alumni through the job search and interview process.


Director, Cirriculum, The AI Education Project

As the Director of Curriculum, you will play a critical role in bringing AI Literacy education to students across the country by leading the design and development of aiEDU’s learning materials. aiEDU’s Learning team is at the center of the organization and the Curriculum Team is the heart of the Learning Team. You will formulate exciting, original ideas for new curricular resources and manage our exceptional team of curriculum developers and instructional designers. As a director, you will play a major role in defining and driving aiEDU’s curriculum strategy to guarantee our students have fun, engaging, and effective learning experiences.

In addition to managing curriculum designers, the Director of Curriculum will collaborate with the Chief Learning Officer on making decisions that impact the entire org. You will work closely with aiEDU’s Professional Learning staff and Programs Team to ensure we are developing and delivering teacher professional development experiences that match the content and quality of our curriculum.


Postdoctoral Research Associate, Center for Social Media and Politics (CSMaP)

The NYU Center for Social Media and Politics (CSMaP) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on research examining the intersection of social and digital media and politics. NYU is interested in research both on the substantive impact of social and digital media as well as innovative uses of social and digital media to study politics.

Approximately 80% of the applicant’s time will be devoted to joint work on CSMaP projects, and 20% will be available for pursuing their own research. The work on CSMaP projects will include ongoing projects at the Center, new projects proposed by the Center’s academic directors, and new projects proposed by the applicant.


Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Trust & Safety, Patreon

  • Work on cutting edge Trust & Safety Machine Learning solutions for detecting fraud, mitigating fake accounts and account takeovers, detecting image and text policy violations, reducing data scraping, and others.

  • Conduct exploratory data analyses and proof-of-concept machine learning models to understand opportunities and potential project impact.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, such as product, engineering, design, legal, and trust and safety to design effective machine learning solutions.

  • Analyze and prepare training data, including using crowdsourcing and Large Language Model data labeling techniques.

  • Train and iterate on machine learning models using novel techniques, including state-of-the-art image models, and Large Language Models for text classification.

  • Deploy machine learning models to production and write backend code when necessary to properly deploy the model.

  • Debug models when observability shows performance gaps, and iterate on models.
